Membership Rooted in our Mission

Inviting and encouraging families to be a part of the world’s largest community squash center regardless of their experience in the sport is central to US Squash’s vision of leading squash to be more accessible to everyone. Memberships at the Specter Center include a variety of categories and pricing options, including free and reduced-cost memberships to ensure all interested residents are able to enjoy the facility and sport of squash.

The Specter Center will feature a full spectrum of programming—from free clinics welcoming new players into the squash community, to Team USA high-performance training, to national and international competitions throughout the year. While this means that some courts won’t be available every day of the year, it also means that Specter Center members will be an integral part of the most dynamic and inclusive squash facility in the world.

All members are encouraged to contribute to the Specter Center Community Fund on a monthly basis. One hundred percent of contributions go directly to support memberships and program enrollment for those who may not otherwise have the means to participate.

The Specter Center features eighteen singles courts, including two all-glass exhibition courts, and two hardball doubles courts.
What was previously located in the Specter Center?
Constructed in 1916 the Specter Center primarily served as a home for the Pennsylvania Army National Guard’s 103rd Engineer Battalion, which can trace its history to Ben Franklin’s call in the 1740s for Philadelphians to unite for their common defense. More recently, 33rd St Armory was later used as a multi-purpose student activity space by Drexel University beginning in 2008.

Registration

How do I reserve a court?
Members must book squash courts using the Club Locker system. If you are a guest in the Center and wish to book a court, you are required to talk to the front desk attendant and complete the registration process. Open courts are available for drop-in use. Community play is welcomed and available for a nominal fee. Should you wish to book a court and do not have access to Club Locker, please call the front desk so that a waiver and acknowledgement of our policies and procedures can be signed before the time of the reservation.
How do I register for programming?
All program registration is done through our Club Locker system. If you are a guest in the Center and wish to register for a program, you are required to talk to the front desk attendant and complete the registration process.
What if I need to cancel my court reservation?
Cancellation of a court booking must be made at least four-hours before court time. If you cancel a court within the 24-hour period, the Specter Center reserves the right to charge a $20 fee for late- or no cancellation.  The goal of our cancellation policy is to ensure that as many courts are available for members and guests as possible.
