The Arlen Specter US Squash Center welcomed more than 100 students and family members for its inaugural Holiday Bash on Monday, December 13.
The party brought together students who have participated in the Center’s community programs, SquashSmarts students and family members for a fun evening of squash, dodgeball, cookie decorating, ornament making, and a festive feast.
The event partnered with groups including the Boys and Girls Club, SquashSmarts upper schoolers, and the new public school league teams including the Science Leadership Academy Middle School and Beeber Middle School.
The Specter Center thanks the generous co-hosts of the Holiday Bash: Becky & Darren Bramen, Irene & Bruce Marks, Paula & Palmer Page, and Eva & Matt Rutherford.
“As we continue to explore ways the Specter Center can serve the community in our inaugural season, it was so nice to have an event simply focused on spreading holiday joy,” said Sakora Miller, Specter Center Senior Manager of Community Squash. “Special thanks to all of our partners and event co-hosts, and most importantly the kids and families who continue to participate in our programs here at the Specter Center. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future.”
On the courts, students took part in fun drills trying to hit Christmas ornament targets placed on the front wall, open round robin play and King of the Court. The doubles courts were the stage for high-spirited dodgeball games – a staple of open play sessions in recent weeks. Meanwhile, the Specter Center Champions Deck was in full holiday mode with a cookie and ornament decorating stations, and a delicious buffet feast.
